JJ going over for the first Camberley try.
Despite Camberley’s best efforts they came away empty handed and suffered a comprehensive 37-12 defeat at Old Reigatians.
Camberley soon found themselves trailing when OR’s slotted an early penalty, soon followed by the first of 4 tries. Camberley found it hard to get a stable platform in the early exchanges, with both lineout and scrum being too inconsistent for the backs to make any headway.
By the time centre James Justice put Camberley on the score sheet they had already conceded a second try. Fly half David Wood reduced the deficit to 17-7 with his conversion, Justice returning to the side after a number of weeks out with a broken thumb.
Camberley had started to contain OR’s and begun to first find parity then ascendency in the scrum and a functioning line out when OR’s struck on the stroke of half time with their third converted try 24-7.
Glossop’s men needed to start the second half well, but two converted penalties inside the opening ten minutes extended OR’s lead to 30-7. It was strange that on both counts OR’s opted to take the points rather than push for the bonus fourth try.
The bonus point eventually arrived mid-way through the half, effectively ruling out any hope of a Camberley comeback. Camberley endeavoured to close the gap to within seven points to at least obtain a losing bonus point, replacement wing Stewart Edwards scored after an incisive run by fellow wing Cruickshank to give Camberley some faint hope, but OR’s took the spoils and kept up their pressure on the league leaders, Wimbledon and Gosport.
