Cam suffer at the seaside

Unlike earlier in the season, coach Ben Glossop was again forced to juggle his side for the trip to bottom placed Bognor and this clearly showed in their performance which lacked the fluidity and pace of previous games.

Cam got off to a poor start with Bognor scoring 2 soft tries during the opening 10 mins although the second did come as a result of an outrageous forward pass.

Cam did come to life after this and Jayde Cruickshank used his strength to go over in the corner however the touch judge ruled that he had stepped out – another contentious decision as it seemed clear to those close at hand that it was the defenders feet which crossed the line with Jayde staying in play.

Cam however kept up the pressure and made it over the hosts line again this time losing the ball in the process. The black and amber scrum then destroyed Bognor but the penalty was again awarded to the home side.

On 30 mins Bognor increased their lead with a good try which was converted from the touch line but Cam eventually scored when, after a period of pressure in the hosts 22, Danny Ligiari went over and with Dave Wood converting it made the half time score 21-7.

Cam started the second half with more purpose and spent a considerable time in the Bognor half but were unable to add to their score. The game became very scrappy with Bognor penalised numerous times for the techniques they employed to stop the black and ambers driving mauls and eventually the frustration boiled over and, after some handbags, both hookers were given 10 mins to cool off.

Cam were still pressing and the niggles continued with both coaches being warned by the ref that he was about to abandon the game.

Cam then scored again with another try by Danny Ligiari but almost straight from the restart Bognor kicked a penalty and after 75 mins they sealed the game with a further try making the final score 29-12.

Overall this was a poor, scrappy, ill disciplined game which Bognor just about deserved to win if only because they appeared to want it that bit more.  Meanwhile the Cam supporters in their glorious pink were regretting that the excellent pre match hospitality given by the Bognor committee was not continued on the pitch!!

Next week sees the start of the return set of league fixtures with Cam travelling to the south coast again, this time to play Tottonians who, although currently second bottom, will provide stiff opposition for the black and ambers.
