Cam lose out in local derby

Fullback Pat Gillham in action on Sat

With a run of poor results in recent weeks Camberley looked to halt the slide against local rivals Chobham. Despite an improved performance the black and ambers came away with another L in the loss column.

Camberley started the brightest attacking Chobham from the kick off the pressure played off with the home side being caught off side in mid field. Centre Jayde Cruickshank’s penalty attempt from the halfway line fell just short of the uprights.

Chobham then took the game to Camberley scoring two quick fire penalties inside 4 minutes, they then increased the lead to 15-0 from a penalty kick. Camberley’s cause was not helped with two sin bins, however, Cruickshank kicked a penalty to get Camberley on the board 15-3, but Chobham finished the half the stronger when their scrum half crashed over from a short range move.

The second period started badly for Camberley, Chobham secured the bonus point within a minute of the restart to open up a useful 25-3 lead. Camberley then enjoyed their best period of the game, a try by debutant wing Greg Strong, and the conversion by Cruickshank gave Camberley a sniff of getting back into the game, despite their best efforts Camberley were unable to reduce the deficit and claim a losing bonus point.
