The SCRUFFS were founded in 1989 by a band of supporters, mostly ex-players, with the intent of raising money for the club that was trying to meet the challenges of the professional game. An important factor was that they had to have fun doing it. This objective remains at the core of the SCRUFFS to this day.  The question is often asked “Why Pink?”. When the SCRUFFS was formed, the founder members wanted to create a recognisable uniform – pullovers of course. Someone groaned “Not another NAVY one, can’t we be different?”. Billy White then chirped ”Up in Ayrshire, one of our sides wears a very fetching shade of pink which everyone agrees is very distinctive”. And so that is how the SCRUFFS came to be wearing pink!

The SCRUFFS attend all 1st XV matches and organise a number of socials each year – often in conjunction with The Camberley Lions. For home matches, we meet for lunch before the game – either as part of a meal being organised by the club or we arrange our own. For away matches we try and ensure a similar arrangement, either at the host club or at a local hostelry. Some matches each year are nominated as “Compulsory” matches where all SCRUFFS are asked to attend. The SCRUFFS has a code of conduct which all SCRUFFS are obliged to follow. Failure to observe these “rules” leads to a fine being paid into the “Pink Box”.

The SCRUFFS are an equal opportunities organisation and membership is open to all sexes, religious persuasions, nationalities and all those who are not averse to wearing the “pinks”.

NEWS UPDATE: (20th February 2012) SCRUFFS provided good support at the recent home game, when Camberley faced Wimbledon for the second time this season. On this occasion we had a closely contested game, in which Camberley put in a strong first half performance, but were unable to convert some second half opportunities into points. See the full match report elsewhere on this website.

The next league game is on Saturday, the 25th of February, when we play away to Twickenham club in the fixture that has already been postponed twice due to bad weather. A pre-game lunch is planned as usual. If you would like be included in the pre-match lunch and transport to the game, please book through Harry Fish on: harryfish@virginmedia.com or call 07860-201387, thanks.
